Bangladesh Business Award
DHL Express Bangladesh and The Daily Star hosted the 10th Bangladesh Business Awards on 16 April 2010 at the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Bangladesh. The Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman graced the occasion as Chief Guest and bestowed the awards.
Key highlights of the event included a key note by Malcolm Monteiro, Senior Vice President & Area Director – South Asia, DHL Express and by Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of the Daily Star. Desmond Quiah, Country Manager of DHL Express Bangladesh was also present.
The winners this year included,
Business Person of the Year 2009: Mr. Md. Saiful Islam (Western Marine Shipyard Ltd) for his change in leading the helm from ship breaking to ship building in Bangladesh.
Enterprise of the Year 2009: Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd represented by Mr. Tapan Chowdhury, for being the market leader of pharmaceuticals and exporting to Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
Outstanding Woman in Business 2009: Kaniz Almas Khan of Persona Hair and Beauty Ltd, for providing
beauty services and pioneering the first spa and gym services for women.
Best Financial Institute 2009: Pubali Bank Limited represented by Mr. Helal Ahmed Chowdhury for being the most trusted bank for the last 51 years and playing a significant role in the socio economic development of the country.
Lifelong Achievement Award: Mr. Nasir A. Chowdhury (Green Delta Insurance), a dynamic and avid patriot for his contribution in the insurance business and tremendous contribution throughout his checkered career.
The full house event was attended by business luminaries of the country, members of the diverse diplomatic corps and high ranking government officials. The event also showcased entertainment performance including a fusion dance.
The event highlighted how Bangladesh as a country has progressed despite the economic meltdown and has managed to overcome various challenges.
