Bangladesh Business Award
DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, in association with The Daily Star, the leading daily news paper of the country, hosted the Bangladesh Business Awards 2011 at Pan Pacific, Sonargaon Hotel on Friday 18th May, 2012. The Bangladesh Business Awards (BBA) recognize and celebrate excellence in business leadership in Bangladesh.
In attendance as Chief Guest was the Honourable Minister, Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, M.P., Ministry of Finance, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In his speech, Mr. Muhith highlighted his government's commitment to broadened economic growth in the coming year and stressed the importance of the business community in playing a critical role in shaping Bangladesh’s future.
Other highlights of the night included key note addresses by Desmond Quiah, Country Manager, DHL Express and by Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of the Daily Star. Ramesh Natarajan, Vice-President, DHL Express, Rest of South Asia was also present during the ceremony as a special guest. The ceremony began with a short tribute to the late Samson H. Chowdhury. This year’s ceremony recognized outstanding contribution to the business community in the calendar year 2011 across 6 categories, which includes a category that nominates Women Leaders, to recognize the pivotal role that women leaders have played in the Bangladesh economy. The awards presented this year were:
The "Business Person of the Year" award, presented to Mr. Anwar Hossain, Chairman, Anwar Group of Industries.
The "Enterprise of the Year" award, presented to Advanced Chemical Industries Limited, represented by Mr. Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman, ACI Ltd.
"Outstanding Woman in Business” went to Ms. Sharmin Hossain, Chairman, Fresh and Safe Agro Ltd (FASAL).
“Best Financial Institution of the Year”, was awarded to Prime Bank Limited, represented by Md. Ehsan Khasru, Managing Director of Prime Bank Limited.
“Lifetime Achievement Award” was handed to Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, President of International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh.
“Lifetime Contribution Award” was given to the late M. A. Samad, represented by his son Towhid Samad, Chairman, Bangladesh General Insurance Company.
A very special recognition was also given to Mr. Latifur Rahman for bringing honor to Bangladesh and its business community by receiving the globally renowned and prestigious “Business for Peace Award 2012” in Oslo, Norway and for setting the highest ethical standards of business practice and personal integrity in the country, which serves as an inspiration for others.
